lxFirebal69xl
I'm just wondering if there's a way to actually import a .obj file and the .mtl, since I'm still pretty new to this whole thing. If this is impossible however, how can I import the files so they work together? -Fire
YouGroove
You can use Blender to import obj, than export to Fbx. Quote Stop toying and make games
lxFirebal69xl
You can use Blender to import obj, than export to Fbx. That's what I did, but the model in leadwerks doesn't have textures.
YouGroove
You must create a new material in LE3 and edit it on the material editor, than choose the shader you need, and just select the textures for the shader. You must also import the textures to LE3, that will be transformed to .tx files, beware to choose the right compression system for the texture (for example Dxt5 when you need alpha transparency). lxFirebal69xl
Yea but the problem is that the textures are in a .mtl format, and I have no idea how to convert them to .tex files.
YouGroove
http://blender.stackexchange.com/questions/5110/how-to-import-a-mtl-file When you import the .obj file, Blender will also import the associated .mtl file by default as well. The colors applied to the model will show in the viewport and to see the texture(s) (if any), press AltZ. lxFirebal69xl
how to convert them to .tex files. I'm well aware that google exists, and I've been searching through forums for a solution on how to convert the .mdl files to .tex files. When I import the model into blender it has the textures but when I export the model in an .fbx file it doesn't have textures<---I want the fix for this. Sorry if I came off as uninformative. CreativeOcclusion
Yea but the problem is that the textures are in a .mtl format A .mtl file can only provide links to the textures, it does not contain the textures...if you do not have the texture files, you will have to re-texture the model.....usually there is a file called "textures" along with the model...the links in the .mtl file refer to these...I hope this helps.... lxFirebal69xl
Well, there is no "textures" file with the models, so there's nothing I can do to get the textures separately? Like export them in blender or something?
MarkusR
u can drag & drop also material in modell view window (from leadwerks editor). this material can use any texture. maybe try FBX® 2013.3 Converter http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?siteID=123112&id=22694909 if u drop a image file in engine project folders the .tex file will be generated automatic and u can edit is by double click in engine editor. lxFirebal69xl
Just tried it and it dind't work either, still no textures on the model.
CreativeOcclusion
This will not work without having the textures in the same folder as the model....a .mtl is nothing more than a text file and contains no textures....the best option you have is to uv map the model with new textures and place them in the same folder as the model exported to .fbx.... lxFirebal69xl
Allright, I'll go have a look on how to uv map models since I'm pretty new to all of this. Thank you all for the answers!
