The Model Editor strips the vertex colors when you save the model. This is a user-clickable option in the TOOLS menu, but just saving the model will remove the vertex colors. Here is example model with vertex colors applied: ellipsoid1.mdl If opened in Model Editor and saved - it will remove the vertex colors.
