drarem
when painting trees on the landscape using vegetation, and those trees are .mdl's with 10k-15k polys, could this cause an impact? If so what could be done for performance improvement? Thanks.
cassius
In my game I dispensed with tree shadows, but I have several pools of warter which show reflections of trees. Don't know which is most costly but trees without shadows look good when they have water reflections. Josh
Don't use 10,000 poly trees! Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
drarem
Also did the 'veg painting' with other objects, not just the trees. We thought the impact would be minimal but I suppose with no physics and collision the fps impact would be minimal. Thanks.
Josh
That's too much for your graphics card to handle. Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
martyj
I recommend buying the Nature DLC package. http://store.steampowered.com/app/430060/ It's hard to find 3d models of trees online with limited polygons. If you want a greater selection of trees & bushes without grass, I recommend this pack. https://www.3dmodels-textures.com/Vegetation/VegetationModels The nature pack is really good for all around items though. Everything is scaled correctly, with the appropriate shaders applied.
Angelwolf
Slightly off topic, perhaps, but does using vegetation cause anyone else's LE to crash? When painting vegetation, my LE will sometimes crash and I have no choice but to restart it. And since putting the vegetation down without crashing, sometimes my LE will crash when I happen to fly past it in perspective view. Using an Asus G73JH laptop if thats of any help.
