SolusHunter
Hi, I'm new to 3d World Studio and I am planning on using it to create levels for use with DX Studio. So, I have been experimenting with the Direct X export. I created a basic 2 room map with a corridor connecting the rooms, and added two lights. Rendered the lights and viewed the result in the perspective view (Textured + Lightmap), then I exported the scene as Direct X. In the export folder I can see the .x file, the two test jpeg textures and nothing else. My question is where has the generated lightmap gone? Thanks for any help. Canardia
You get the lightmap when you save the map. SolusHunter
I've tried saving (3dw file) as well as exporting after generating the lightmap but I never get a lightmap texture saved out. I'm also assuming that the lightmap would be saved in a usable format such as jpg or tga?
Canardia
Ah yes, the lightmap is saved into the 3dw. Export to B3D to get the lightmap as a seperate texture. Pixel Perfect
The lightmap certainly is embedded in the .3dw file and I suspect is probably stored as vertex color information in the DirectX format file although I've never used this format with 3DWS due to its limited support for terrain layers (just a single layer). The lightmap is exported as a seperate file with b3d export but I don't think its in a straight forward overlay type format so you might struggle with using that. Do you not see the lightmapping when importing the .X file into DX Studio? Josh
The .x format does not support lightmaps, at least the older version I used.
