Jules D.
Just wondering, will LW3 support tesselation, and if so, will that remove the need for level of detail models? Canardia
Tesselation is supported only by SM5 cards (DX11/OpenGL 4), so only very few people can use it. You will still need to do your normal maps if you want more than 5% of the people to buy your game. Maybe in 6 years time it makes more sense. http://www.geeks3d.com/20100819/gpu-tool-tessmark-0-2-2-new-opengl-4-tessellation-benchmark/ Quote ■ Ryzen 9 ■ RX 6800M ■ 16GB ■ XF8 ■ Windows 11 ■ ■ Ultra ■ LE 2.5 ■ 3DWS 5.6 ■ Reaper ■ C/C++ ■ C# ■ Fortran 2008 ■ Story ■ ■ Homepage: https://canardia.com ■

Josh
When I started LE2 everyone thought I was crazy for requiring a shader models 3 GPU. Two years later, 85% of Steam users can run the engine. Yes, LE3 will feature tessellation. To what extent this removes the need for LOD, I can't say until I try it. You will still want LOD for animated characters, because it can be used to remove bones as well as just triangles.
