deniz
Hi all, here is a video of my recent work on simulating real-time snow accumulation in LE. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SKEymqY474
Pixel Perfect
That's pretty neat Deniz. Would look even nicer with a snow emitter! Nice work though. Paul Thomas
Very nice, Deniz. Great work in progress.
Josh
That is a really clever idea. Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
deniz
thank you all guys, I am glad you liked it this effect is still in its development stage. after integrating it with the framework, I will post the updated video and maybe the binary as well. Later I will add a snow emitter as well. I did not want to do it for now, since I wanted to show just the effect itself.
Josh
Do you mind if I build this effect into the LE3 renderer? It could work for rain, too. David Will
On the previous engine I was working with I commissioned someone to build in a similar effect, starting off like yours but then slowly fading in snow 'objects' that would automatically size and conform to the elevation and angles of the building/object to simulate thick snow. I scrapped the snow segment of the game a while back but I may bring it back, would be great to see something like this in LE3.
Richard Simpson
would be great to see something like this in LE3. I agree. Having a weather system would be great! A little OT there Josh, but you look entirely TOO happy. Quote AMD Phenom II x6 1100T - 16GB RAM - ATI 5870 HD - OCZ Vertex 2 60GB SSD
Roland
Do you mind if I build this effect into the LE3 renderer? It could work for rain, too. That would be just great. As I wrote in my blog I would like to have in rain and wind in my GameEntry scene but have no idea how to do it. Rekindled Phoenix
That video with the bunny model seems to be the way Crysis does their snow / water effects, almost like a projection light that applies onto vertices with a certain angle. Josh
It's a lot more than that, he's got geometry adding to the surfaces, which is impressive. deniz
yes, addtional geometry is added & modified to give that effect. one of the questions was what function to use for varying the snow thickness with the angle.
Josh
Seems like a perfect opportunity to use geometry shaders. Quote My job is to make tools you love, with the features you want, and performance you can't live without.
deniz
Seems like a perfect opportunity to use geometry shaders. that's why I asked before if there was support for geometry shaders in LE2 In fact, geometry shader might not be sufficient. support for tessellation shaders would be better.
