Chris Adkins
Is it possible for a sub-par graphics card to cause Leadwerks Editor to simply exit without message or explanation everytime I add anything to the grid. Doesn't matter what it is the program just exits. The graphics card is an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600. I got this software as a Christmas present and have been concentrating on the programming aspect of it, but recently tried making some scenes and whatnot instead of just using the stuff from the tutorials. Any ideas on things to try would be great.
carlb
i have to say you card is way to low a spec and will never run leadwerk i can not remember what the lowest spec you can have on ati but sure it in the 2xxx range someone else may say Quote Asus ROG STRIX B350-F GAMMING AMD Ryzen 7 1700x 32 gb ddr4 15 TB raid 5 HD Nvidia EVGA 1060GTX Win10 64bit
Rick
I think if the editor runs at all, it should not crash when you add something. When you first start the editor is there a directional light object in your scene? By default a new scene puts that in. If that's in there then something else is happening. Marleys Ghost
I got THIS setup to run LE but the X1550 isn't supported as it can't perform texture lookups in the vertex shader. Hence the crashes when trying to load maps with terrains. VicToMeyeZR
It will crash because when you as soon as you add something the Physics comes into play. My laptop will run the editor, but will crash when adding ANYTHING to the scene. Niosop
I wouldn't think it would be physics causing it to crash. More likely once a shader that isn't supported is used it crashes. Josh
The log file will have information on what happened. Probably a shader failed to compile. The Radeon 1600 does not even comply with the shader model 3 specification, and will crash if you try rendering terrain or animated characters. It may work aside from those features if you update your drivers, but it's not officially supported hardware. We may in the future add another renderer for low-spec cards. Leadwerks is getting a lot of good game-making features, so the strength of the engine is no longer just graphics. It might make sense in the future to have a low-spec fallback. Chris Adkins
Thanks for the responses guys. Sadly you have confirmed my suspicions. Short of buying a new computer (it is a laptop so upgrading the video is not an option) what can I do in terms of work arounds. Or do you know where I can find some pre-done graphics so I can still keep working with the programming side of it while I look for a decent laptop laying on the side of the street . Also if I put my log file on here as an attachment would someone be able to glance over it and confirm the suspicions. I looked into it and it just said loading various shaders and then nothing else. No real reason for the exit, but I might not have been reading it 100% correct. Kinda strange. Anywho thanks for the input and for the further guidance. Marleys Ghost
I have no problem programming with the pre-done graphics from the tutorials, I just can't edit them . I was thinking more of anything that used terrain or the other stuff mentioned. You could try the tunnels.sbx I had that working in the editor too with an X1550 and ATI Catalyst Display Driver Version 9.11 Quote AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4100 Black Edition 2 x 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz Memory Gigabyte GeForce GTX 550 Ti OC 1024MB GDDR5 Windows 7 Home 64 bit BlitzMax 1.50 • Lua 5.1 • MaxGUI 1.41 • UU3D Pro • MessiahStudio Pro • Silo Pro 3D Coat • ShaderMap Pro • Hexagon 2 • Photoshop, Gimp & Paint.NET LE 2.5/3.4 • Skyline • UE4 • CE3 SDK • Unity 5 • Esenthel Engine 2.0 Marleys Ghost's YouTube Channel • Marleys Ghost's Blog "I used to be alive like you .... then I took an arrow to the head"
