Model editor surface highlighting not working

I confirm the problem.

 

I don't know how it works but :

Testing with crawler modle :

I select surface 0 : i drop a texture on model , the texture is spread on crawler body

I select surface 1 : i drop a texture on model , the texture is spread on crawler body

 

Should not selected surface to be the one receiving the texture ?

This is how should be the workflow no ?

Oh, I see what you were trying to do...

 

Right-click on the surface node and you can select or remove that surface's material.

 

A little section at the bottom of the tree for object or surface properties would be a little more intuitive. I consider it a minor failure any time the user has to ask or read documentation on how to do anything.
