Yes, that's right. I'm thinking of buying version 2.3. But first I need to make sure that I will not disappoint. I'm working on a project that uses a lot of vegetation, and I wonder if the version 2.3, supports billboard, and how do I use it, it is very difficult?!?! The same is the LOD system, the documentation and the videos lessons, I realized that there is, but I wanted to know how to set the parameters of distance?!

So, grass is over whole terrain :)

Looks at the trees, lots lots lots of treeeeeeees :D

Shadow map is 2048 in size (big)

using HDR, Bloom

 

I am almost 70 FPS :) which is very very good result :)

You can set parameters, distances for every LOD (it makes billboards automaticly in new editor)

and the important thing: It's very easy :D

For vegetation layers, you can set the distance the billboard appears at, the distance for LOD changes, and the distance at which the object disappears completely, all in the vegetation layers options. Billboards are generated automatically, and as you can see, it is possible to have hundreds of thousands of trees onscreen at once.

For small objects the billboards are black sometimes. Without a alphachannel. Noticed it with some of my models...

It creates a billboard texture thats it.

Vegetation meshes should have no hierarchy, i.e. all surfaces should belong to one top-level mesh. This is important for speed, so the billboard generation routine doesn't even bother with any subhierarchy in the mesh. I suspect this is the problem.
